Meet our Director, Rod Milbourn.
Rod Milbourn, founder and director of the Nashville Community Gospel Choir (NCGC), has dedicated his life to uniting people through the power of gospel music. With a deep-rooted passion for worship and a rich history in music ministry, Rod has been inspiring voices and building community for over three decades.
Born into a musical family, Rod’s journey began early. His parents, both accomplished musicians, instilled in him a love for music that has guided his path. Growing up immersed in choirs and marching bands, Rod discovered his passion for directing at the age of 19 while in college. His natural ability to bring out the best in others has since become his hallmark.
A Visionary Leader in Gospel Music
Rod’s vision for the Nashville Community Gospel Choir was born out of a desire to reach beyond church walls and create a platform where individuals from all walks of life could come together in worship. Founded in 2021, the choir began as a small ensemble at The Pavilion Church in Madison, TN, and has since grown into a celebrated community group. Today, NCGC features members from across Nashville and even West Tennessee.
Under Rod’s dynamic leadership, NCGC has achieved remarkable milestones, including winning the prestigious Large Choir category at the 2023 “How Sweet The Sound” Gospel Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. The choir is also preparing to release their first original single, with a full album slated for 2025.
A Legacy of Excellence
Rod’s career spans directing, singing, teaching, and performing. He has served on music teams across Indiana, Georgia, Tennessee, and Colorado, and founded the acclaimed West Tennessee Mass Choir. His work with the Mass Choir included recordings, ministry travels, and performances at venues like The Bobby Jones Gospel Show, the Holy Convocation Musical in Memphis, and the Olanda Draper Music Conference.
As an educator, Rod has shared his expertise at renowned institutions such as Indiana Bible College, Gateway College of Ministries, and Jackson College of Ministries, where he taught and performed at music conferences. These opportunities allowed him to inspire and mentor aspiring gospel musicians, further solidifying his impact on the next generation of talent.
Rod has also nurtured talent that has reached global stages. He served as choir director for the school and church choirs of notable groups like Kings of Leon and Goodbye June, the latter featuring his son, Landon Milbourn, as lead vocalist.
Music, Ministry, and Family
For Rod, music is more than a calling—it’s a source of joy and fulfillment. He finds happiness in bringing people together to share their love for gospel music and their passion for ministry. Outside of music, Rod treasures time with his family, including his son, daughter, and three grandsons.
